Sanderling, Siesta Key

Uploaded on Apr 18, 2011 by Michael Saunders

Sanderling on Siesta Key is one of Sarasota’s oldest and most prestigious neighborhoods. Dating back to the 1940’s, it was planned as a casual yet exclusive beach community, where residents could take advantage of a private, spectacular white sand shoreline and enjoy tennis and social activities at the clubhouse — an iconic yet simple structure designed by famed architect Paul Rudolph and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today Sanderling is the only guard gated single family community on the Key. The homes here are large and set on spacious pieces of land. Many are directly on the Gulf of Mexico. Others face pristine Heron Lagoon, famous for its bird watching and wild life and Old Florida feeling. Sanderling’s architecture is famous, from new mansions in a variety of traditional styles to the old beach cottages, enlarged and updated over the years, which blend both Sarasota’s past and present.
